The Bennog Tarot draws its soul from Gospatric Map Bennog, a Cumbric-speaking lord who held the sacred territory of Catterlen — meaning "throne" — in twelfth century northern England. He was a gentle warrior, a border lord caught between kingdoms, devoted to his land, his people, and his dark-haired lass.

Their love story weaves through every card.

The red kite — the great soaring bird of Wales — appears throughout as a symbol of vision, freedom, and spiritual sight. Ravens serve as messengers between worlds. Skull drinking cups honor the Celtic tradition of using skulls as ceremonial goblets, embracing death as inseparable from the sacred act of living.
